VIDEO/INSTALLATIONS

video-header

By clicking on the page links below you van view a selection of videos and installations produced by the artist, sometimes in collaboration with filmmakers and various arts organizations. These works are almost always exhibited as ‘objects’, that is they are mostly displayed with spatial intent functioning more like three-dimensional environments (rather than ‘video artworks’).

In this way the artist playfully engages the viewer, implicating them in the artwork through the erasure of the notion of distance and spectatorship. Nonetheless, this form of erasure is not necessarily ‘illustrated’ but rather, functions as a conceptual approach towards the production of art and life. Thom views his works as physiological extensions of the body incorporating its drives within a web of communications that is simultaneously internal and external, ‘acting’ and ‘acted-upon’ – a  productive body that is not simply subject to external forces but also a force to be reckoned with in itself.
